Ever seen Confessions of a Shopaholic? Whether you are a Rebecca Bloomwood or not, you would definitely be enthusiastic about the shopping deals and the fact that paying for these entails incentives.
August, known as the inauspicious month, is said to be a bad time to do activities such as spending, travelling, moving house, investing, or even starting a new business. Nevertheless, it is not surprising why amazing promos are popping out.

July 18, 2014 Stock Portfolio
This is my first post. I've been investing in (or trading?) stocks since August 2011. During that time the main issue was the European financial crisis. As I understood it, there was a possibility of EU to break up. I lost a bit of my capital on that year, luckily I was just starting out so the loss is minimal. I was able to stick with stock investing for 3 years now and I wanted to share my strategies, at the same time reflecting on them.
For my 1st account, my strategy is just to pick companies that have low PE ratio and has stable business operation. I am trying to be a value investor for this account. To get the ratio, I mainly use the Investment Guide in COL Financials here (I think you need to have an account to access it). "Stable" is still a bit subjective but anyways, here it is:

The performance is a bit lower than the index (which is ~16%). But I feel comfortable knowing that these companies have high earnings compared to their price (relative to other stocks). I will go on more details on my succeeding posts.
For my 2nd account, my strategy is to pick companies with high dividend return. This strategy is inspire by Dogs of the Dow. Although I still did not include some high dividend companies like GLO and MB.

The performance of this account is a lot better than the first one. I'm not sure if this is really better or I was just lucky for this year (this account is newer). I guess time will tell.
For comparison, the performance of the index is:
PSEi: +16.57%
5889 to 6865 (Dec 27 to July 18)
